CARTER GADDIS The Tampa Tribune

ST. PETERSBURG - It's a common misconception in New England that Boca Raton businessman John Henry owns the Red Sox.

Nope. The Red Sox are owned - lock, stock and broken-bat barrel - by Devil Rays All-Star Scott Kazmir.

His first shutout came a day after he was named to his first American League All-Star team. And the 3-0 victory Monday at Tropicana Field came against a team that appears to be well on its way to winning the AL East, but that Kazmir, 22, has dominated for most of his young career.

"The sight of the Red Sox," Rays manager Joe Maddon said, "just kind of turns him on a little bit."
